Erik Appelqvist Makes Steps Forward At Challenging GP Of Trentino

Johansson Yamaha Official Junior Enduro Team rider Erik Appelqvist has wrapped up the GP of Trentino with a 12th place result in the highly competitive Enduro Junior category. Posting times inside the top six on three different occasions during the weekend, the young Swede showed he is continuing to make progress aboard the team's WR250F machine. Featuring a mixture of three motocross races, four enduro tests and another four extreme tests, the GP of Trentino was a different challenge for all competitors. Gaining yet more valuable racing time aboard the WR250F, 20-year-old Appelqvist was able to show more of what he is capable of in Italy. Kicking off the GP with a strong sixth place result in the short opening SuperTest, Erik was not able to get the starts he'd hoped for on Saturday morning's motocross races. Battling for a spot inside the top seven, he suffered two minor falls in the first and last motocross races that cost the Swede valuable time. With the race entering its second phase, Erik kept improving his pace in the afternoon enduro tests. Entering the final part of the GP provisionally placed in ninth position, the Swede suffered two crucial mistakes in the evening extreme tests and had to settle for 12th in the Enduro Junior category. Erik was also seventh in the Enduro Junior 1 category for under 23 riders on 250cc bikes. Posting times inside the top five aboard his enduro-modified YZ 125 machine, Appelqvist's teammate Marcus Adielsson secured an eighth-place result in the Enduro Youth class. The Johansson Yamaha Official Junior Enduro Team return to action in Edolo, Italy for round six of the 2018 Enduro World Championship on August 31, September 1, 2018.
